fake star – renewable energy art projects

Launch 11 April 2018 / 18:30
@ Hallesche Straße corner Elbstraße, Lutherstadt Wittenberg

artists: Julius von Bismarck, Benjamin Maus, Richard Wilhelmer
co-organiser: Energieavantgarde Anhalt e. Vinnogy foundation and dynamis

The Fake Star artistic intervention generates its own energy like a windmill in the sky and feeds an LED lamp that looks in the dark like a star. Furthermore the installation explores in this poetic way the effects of the ‘post-fact’ period and our collective perception of truth. In the time of digital media, facts and credibility are measured based on each individual’s social reality and influences as well as on what the majority agrees. Creating the illusion of a star automatically questions the hypostasis of every single true star, that becomes automatically protagonists of the artistic composition.

The light installation consists of  a kite which, depending on the wind force, starts and lands fully automatically from a computer – controlled ground station. It rises about 100 meters high and carries a LED light, whose power is fed by a small propeller generator – a ‘starpower station’ operated from  renewable energy.

This environmental activity is organised in the framework of the Energieavantgarde Anhalt e. V, innogy foundation and dynamis a regional network of actors working in cooperation with national and European partners for a sustainable regional energy system. Fake Star is supported by Future DiverCities project and curated by Susa Pop | Public Art Lab in the framework of Creative Europe Programme.
