Red Block by Hans J. Wiegner

For the reopening of the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin, Red Block was installed in the forecourt. Red Block is a 20 meter long light sculpture, composed of ten acrylic glass blocks whose surfaces were sanded matt, and with light sources installed inside. During the day Red Block shone like a block of ice and when dusk came, its intense glow enlightened the whole, snowy forecourt. In the cold of February, their intensely red glow imparted warmth and energy. This spectacular object quickly became a popular meeting point and photographic shooting location.
