city light orchestra performance @ collegium hungaricum berlin

Public Art Lab is delighted to present Antoine Schmitt’s ‘City Light Orchestra’ networked performance hosted by Collegium Hungaricum Berlin (CHB) and Labourdettes Towers – Marseille, in the framework of Vorspiel of Transmediale / CTM Festival, Chroniques Festival and Future DiverCities project.

City Light Orchestra is a visual symphony for the windows of the city, a pulsating illumination composed by the artist for the city’s inhabitants. After nightfall, every internet-connected computer illuminates the nearest window, twinkling, pulsing, beating, going on and off according to its own score, in pace with all the other computers. Smartphones in the street follow suit. The symphony is composed to accept an unlimited number of participants at any moment and never stops while unceasingly recomposing. The whole city becomes the orchestra, both the interpreter and audience of the symphony playing for one evening. It is the experience of a whole city.

City Lights Orchestra will simultaneously glow in Berlin on the Collegium Hungaricum Berlin (CHB) building and at the Labourdettes Towers – Marseille, sensitively connecting the two cities and their inhabitants.

Projection from  5.30 to 8pm in:

• Berlin: Balassi Institut – Collegium Hungaricum Berlin – Dorotheenstraße 12 10117 Berlin

• Marseille: Labourdettes Buildings, 6-8, Square Belsunce, 13 001 Marseille
