Michaela Vieser

Michaela Vieser is a Nature Writing author who focuses on new narratives by applying a method of extended research, combining information from the sensual as well as the scientific world. She is a graduate from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, Tohoku University in Japan, an alumni of the Royal Asiatic Society, the Bosch Foundation and the Jan Michalski Foundation for Nature Writing. She has been writing and producing books, radio features and TV documentaries for over two decades: her autobiography „Tee mit Buddha“ about her one year stay in a Japanese monastery became a national bestseller. Her latest TV documentary on Love Rituals for ARTE was shortlisted with the Grimme Price, The Bavarian film price and the ART&TUR Viseu, Portugal and was screened at the Cambria Film Festival, California. She has produced the first children radio play in Swahili together with the children of Kibera slum Nairobi for One Fine Day and is currently working together with MICT on a radio play for Ugandan National Radio on the Covid-19 crisis. Her non-fiction book „Weather“ (Duden, 2020) is a cultural and anthropological approach to the subject that stands at the center of the climate change debate. Michaela Vieser developed the idea of the Living Library for Nature Writing together with Susa Pop.
