Thereby pointing out main challenges: the technical part of how to connect facades from city to city but also how to integrate suitable, site-specific and interactive cultural content from a curatorial point of view. The lecture shows best cases and innovative methods for developing digital facades projects all over the world.

Antoine Schmitt with an adaption of “City Sleeps Lights” and Mar Canet / Varvara Guljajeva with a new piece “O ritmo de Sao Paulo” were chosen by the curator Susa Pop and are shown within the Festival during the 3rd until the 31st December 2012 (see programm).

About

SP _URBAN DIGITAL FESTIVAL is an initiative of SESI-SP, a cultural service since 1979. The pyramid-like building of FIEST offers a huge façade. Within the SP_URBAN DIGITAL FESTIVAL the facades will be transformed into the first digital gallery of Latin America during the festival. The event is a pioneer project for integrating culture in the public space.

MUTEK Lab : 30th May 2012, 14:45h – 16.15h

Together with some of our international project partners, Susa Pop was invited to introduce the European Urban Media Network for Connecting Cities, aimed at creating a network of urban media facades to circulate creative and social content, at MUTEK Fetival 2012. From 2012 to 2016, the network will test this infrastructure through three Connecting Cities events: the Networked City, the Participatory City and the Visible City in the frame of the EU Culture Programme 2007-2013.

Panel: The Networked, the Participatory and the Visible City
Connecting Cities network members discuss the role of urban media facades for our cities as visualisation and communication platforms. Acting as interfaces between the digital and the physical world, these facades engage the public in participatory processes and thus create a novel awareness of public space

Panelists & Presenters:
Susa Pop (Public Art Lab/DE)
Gernot Tscherteu (Media Architecture Group, mai/AT)
Mike Stubbs (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology, FACT/UK)
Yves Bernard (iMAL/BE)
Moderator: Cheryl Sim (PHI Center/CA)

About MUTEK & MUTEK Festival
MUTEK is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the dissemination and development of digital creativity in sound, music, and audio-visual art. Its mandate is to provide a platform for the most original and visionary artists currently working in their fields, with the intent of providing an outlet of initiation and discovery for the audiences we seek to develop. MUTEK’s principal activity is the annual presentation of its namesake festival, which has taken place in Montreal since 2000.

From 30th May – 3rd June 2012 in Montreal, Canada.
